Contrary to what most of us think, being an adult is not a time in life but  rather a state of mind. It is not simply about reaching an age when you think you can be on your own, it is more about reaching a point in one’s life where he begins to act upon the responsibilities of being a productive member of the society. An individual fully accountable of his life and at the same time considering how to be helpful to the people and the environment around him.




Being aware of such huge responsibility sometimes makes us want to stay as a child forever! We want to somehow skip the complexities of adult life. But that for sure is not going to happen, as certain as we get older everyday, so as the reality of having to move on to a stage in everyone’s life called Adulthood.

There are times when you suddenly realize there are change in your behavior and life choices. You can’t help but silently tell yourself “tumatanda na ako”. Don’t ever feel bad, you are not alone. In fact you have to CONGRATULATE yourself as you are now beginning to live in balance between idealism and reality.  When you were younger, the fire of idealism was burning and you were filled with so many great things you want to accomplish. But now you understood how reality works and learned how to calm down and take it easy. Here are some more signs that will help you know if you are legitimately ADULTING:


1. You love to talk about ideas not people
You realized there is no point in talking about other people, it is a waste of precious time.  You would rather enjoy enriching discussion about ideas when you are with friends or family.

2. You like to be on your own more often than before
You feel happy to be with friends and family but you also make sure to have quiet time with yourself to think about many things such as your future, career, family and other stuff.



3. You enjoy silent and calm places
During long weekends and vacations, instead of going to the city, you would prefer to go to beach, hiking or just stay at home where you can enjoy a silent and calm ambiance.

4. You use your bonus to improve your home not to buy gadgets
There was a time when you thought having the newest gadget is the best use of money. But now you realized the best way to spend your money is for the home so you can have utmost comfort at the place where you spend time the most.

5. You don't care about what people say about you
It doesn’t matter if other people disagree with you as long as you know it will make you happy and fulfilled, you will go do it anyway.

6.You want to sleep as much as you can
During schools days, you love going out and staying up late. Sleepovers and parties are always on your calendar. But now you would rather sleep as much as you can when given time.


7. You start planning for your future
You have understood how time flies so fast. So you make it a point to begin establishing yourself financially, emotionally and spiritually. Your life goals become more clear by now.

8. You figured out how you want to dress
Going with the lastest fashion trends is no longer a thing for you. You have a personal dress code which makes you comfortable and confident the most.

9. You know your favorite drink or food
Before, you would want to try everything when you get to a restaurant, but now, you know what tastes best and you simply go for it without even looking at all the other choices.

10. You workout to become healthy not to show off
You no longer post photos while inside the gym because you know that your purpose of going in there is to stay fit not to get many Likes on Facebook and Instagram.




11. You stop posting everything that happens to you on social media
You choose what to share on social media. There are things that you like to keep private and there are things that you are just glad to share with other people.

12. You spend time on LinkedIn
 Every time you want to know about a person, you also consider looking into the person’s LinkedIn account other than Facebook.

13. You stop comparing yourself to others
You recognize that you are God's unique masterpiece. You have your own character, skillset and choices that does not need to be the same with those of other people.
