Carpe Diem- it is a famous Latin phrase that means “Seize the
Day”. Every time we get out of bed signifies another wonderful opportunity to
be productive. But most of the times during the very moment we get out of bed,
just imagining about stress, heavy traffic along the road, having to do the
same thing over and over again and the amount of work waiting ahead of
the day make us feel indifferent and lazy in most cases.
It’s time to shake that up and do something about it. There is no other better feeling than going out for work or school energized, motivated and really sensing that you are up to some important mission for the day! There are simple actions we can do early in the morning that can have great impact to our productivity at work or at school.
1. Fix the bed properly and very neatly
This might sound very simple and irrelevant for you but it’s not. This one-minute routine when regularly done triggers a chain reaction of accomplishments. In the military, this is a part of their training and the reason is that accomplishing something even a very simple one in the morning will give you a sense of fulfillment and therefore you will be encouraged to go for more throughout the day. This does not consume much of your time, but try it and you will see how effective it is.
2. Drink 2 to 3 glasses of water
One of the reasons why you feel grumpy, weak or lazy in the morning is that you have been a bit dehydrated during your sleep. Our body consumes water even during sleep, so 6 to 8 hours of it really means you need to drink water right away after waking up. This will immediately help make you feel better. Besides, it will help a lot to improve your metabolism.
3. Exercise for at least 15 to 30 mins
A short workout routine in the morning is crucial for your productivity. In the morning when you wake up, the muscles, nerves and bones of the body have been in rest mode for a couple of hours. So in order to get them ready for the work ahead, a simple workout is highly recommneded. This will help increase your energy and alertness level throughout the day. A hyped mind and body is much more likely to handle whatever stress the day brings. Besides, even if you do not accomplish much for the day, you will still feel good because you already did something for yourself early on.
4. Write down the things you are grateful about
One of the reasons why we don’t feel enthusiastic about going out for work, school is that we don’t realize the good things around us. Oftentimes, the very first things that pop out of our head in the morning are the tons of different negativities we can’t easily avoid. Whether it happened in yesterday or a possibility, it’s actually hard to keep them out of our minds since we have been accustomed to it for a long time.
What you can do is sit down for a moment and begin to write down the things you are grateful for. Writing it down is more advisable than simply enumerating them in your mind. What this does is that it slowly moves your attention into the positive things rather than the negative ones. One by one you will realize that when you are focused on identifying the positive things in your life, you will see that there are absolutely so much more of them than negative ones.
5. 15-minute quiet time
There are many things you can do during this moment of silence. Either you pray, focus on the things that are important for today, priorities or think of any positive thoughts. What this does is that it helps you clear out your mind so that you can easily focus on the much more important things for the day. Starting the day clear and positive will give you more opportunities to work on what is best.
6. Sing a happy song
I have tried this many times and it works! Whenever I need to cheer up and motivate myself for something else, I just have to choose the song the suits my mood, sing it and the feeling becomes better right away. It does not need to be loud, singing silently in your mind while feeling the lyrics of the song will also work fine.
These few keys will not work like magic, but they do have great effect if observed regularly. There is nothing more effective but a mind that is committed to work on something until the desired results are achieved.
