Mt. Mapait: The latest hiking destination in Palayan City Nueva Ecija!
It’s funny and interesting how some of the famous mountains in Nueva
Ecija were named. They somehow represent emotions that most of us can
surely relate to. The Mount Sawi in Gabaldon, Mount Labi in Bongabon (as in Labi ng dalawang pusong nag-iibigan), Paasa Peak (Mt. Kemalugong) in Laur and
now there is Mount Mapait in Palayan
City. If you are reading this, don’t think those names have something
to do with the characteristics of the mountains I mentioned as they are
absolutely opposite of what these words mean! Each mountain has the adventure
and magnificence that every nature lover has to experience.
The NEBMC Exploration team |
On a two-day exploration last November 5-6, the Nueva Ecija Backpackers and Mountaineers
Community (NEBMC) went to a rarely known mountain in Palayan City,
Nueva Ecija’s capital. Mount Mapait is popular only among the residents of the
barangays sorrounding it. But NEBMC believes
this kind of wonder should be made known to everybody so that we can all
together enjoy exploring its God-given beauty and at the same time join our efforts
to take good care of it. The Mount Mapait is now officially included in Nueva Ecija's list of hiking destinations.
Some of the amazing adventures during the summit include an
overview of the Aulo lake and a 360 degree view of the surrounding communities at the summit. There will also be a boat ride across the lake going to the trail entry point. It takes around 3 hours to reach the summit and another 1.5 hours to descend.
