The Historic Ancient Temples of Ayutthaya Thailand

Ayutthaya Thailand

There are many things Thailand is famous about. Some of them are food, tourist destinations, festivals and most importantly- historic temples. In Ayutthaya alone, there are more than a dozen of these amazing temples that tourists all over the world visit. Here are three of Ayutthaya Thailand’s famous ancient temples that speak about Thailand's rich culture.

1. Wat Chaiwatthanaram
Upon entering this huge complex, I was stunned by the architectural skills of Thai people. The intricate designs on the walls, the high and huge pagodas were  amazing! I really hope to be back to Thailand and see more those ancient structures.  According to history, the temple was constructed in 1630 by the king Prasat Thong as the first temple of his reign, as a memorial of his mother's residence in that area. The temple's name literally means the Temple of long reign and glorious era. It was designed in Khmer style, which was popular in that time.

Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon
This temple was built in 1363 AD. One of the main attractions in this temple is the Main Chedi which is 60 meters high and has a stairway where visitors can climb up to see its interior.

Wat Phanan Choeng
I did not enter this Temple so I wasn’t able to have a glimpse of the famous Buddha statue inside. This temple is not as huge as the others, but it is one of the temples that witnessed Thailand’s most historic events since it was built in the early 1324.
